Technology Model Application Wind Flow Analysis
The proprietary design of the Median Wind turbines was the result of extensive Computer Aided Design (CAD) research. Composed primarily from lightweight aluminum and composite fiber, it is one of the smallest and lightest vertical axis wind turbines in the world. Each turbine has three sails shaped to capture wind moving along the highway median barrier. This includes the typical horizontal air flow, but unlike conventional wind turbines, it is curved to catch air displaced by passing vehicles that moves up the face of the median barrier.

Each turbine drives a 1 Kilowatt (maximum) curve-shifting generator, and the whole assembly is bolted into anchors set into the existing concrete median barrier. The generator itself fits inside a cored section of the concrete, blocking any noise it creates and preventing its exposure to any vehicle colliding with the median.

Manufacturing is done with CNC machines to produce a highly uniform and well-balanced product with a minimum of component parts.
