Median Wind turbines generate clean pollution-free power
Benefits
Benefits
Carbon-Neutral:
Median Wind turbines do not contribute to global warming because they generate electricity without producing any carbon dioxide (CO2). 100 miles of Median Wind highway generates enough electricity each year to offset almost 100,000 tons of carbon emissions from a coal-fired power plant.
Pollution-Free:
Median Wind turbines do not rely on combustion and thus do not have emissions of any kind. Without the sulfur, carbon monoxide, ozone, and particulate pollutants of conventional power generation, the air around Median Wind installations will be free from smog and clean to breathe.
Domestically Produced:
In contrast to our current dependence on foreign oil for energy, Median Wind uses untapped power resources within our existing highway system to generate electricity. Domestic production provides compelling economic stimulus, eases our federal trade imbalance, and provides numerous national security benefits.
Job Creation:
Thousands of jobs will be created to manufacture the Median Wind turbine generators. And over 1,000 construction jobs will be created for every 100 miles of highway installation. Additional employment will result from ongoing operation and maintenance.
Cost:
Median Wind power has construction costs similar to conventional natural gas fired power plants but since the turbines do not require any fuel, they have a profound advantage in operational cost. Median Wind compares even more favorably with carbon-neutral power plants such as nuclear – without the waste and accidental risk.
Positive Fiscal Impact:
The federal government and states will be reimbursed for its funding and will generate income towards deficit reduction. 10% of the power generation and transmission fees from ongoing operations are refunded to the federal government.
Co-location:
Highway wind power can be generated in the very environment where most electricity is consumed: In and around our cities. This is a significant advantage over large wind farms, which exist in rural areas and require new infrastructure to transmit the electricity and have significant power loss with transmission distance.
Smart-Grid:
As Median Wind turbines are installed along a stretch of highway, their connections form the backbone of a new high-voltage transmission system. A smart grid is essential infrastructure for integration of alternative energy from all sources, but only Median Wind serves as a smart grid while generating additional new electricity at the same time.
Safe:
Unlike large conventional and nuclear power plants, Median Wind power is not subject to catastrophic accidents and by virtue of its being spread out makes it less likely as a terrorist target. Because power generation is so broadly distributed, no single event could damage more than a small fraction of the Median Wind system.
Extensible:
As our energy demands continue to increase, Median Wind systems can be installed on additional highways. This provides both new generation capacity as well as the new transmission capacity required for any new power source. It can be extended by as little as one mile or as much as needed - the length of our highway system is virtually unlimited.
Sited on Existing Government Property:
Unlike other additional sources of power generation, Median Wind does not require the acquisition of new land sites. Median Wind turbines are installed on the median barrier of highways that the government already owns.
Hidden and Secure Transmission:
Median Wind links wind turbines into a smart grid with high-voltage transmission lines embedded in the highway median. This would replace the need for overhead lines that can be a landscape eyesore and has on rare occasion even been the source of devastating wildfires.
